Too noisy, sites are very small & no privacy! July 2010...
|
My husband and I purchased a new 30ft. RV this spring and decided to drive up to 6 Mile Lake Provincial Park & go on our first camping trip. We were disappointed with the very small sites, the constant noise from highway 400, lack of privacy between sites, dirty washrooms, campers who were loud, swearing and arguing with each other late at night, and also with trash strewn around our campsite that was left by previous campers. Since there is no grass at the sites, when it rained our campsite turned into a muddy mess!

Could have been a lot better
|
I did find the camp ground to clean. We stayed in July of 2010
I found if you owned on of those trailers near the lake, well they had it good. As for transit like myself..They put us at the back of the grounds as this looks to be the only transits sites they have. It was a 4 minute walk to the bathrooms. The playground for the kids needs a lot of dirt placed under the equipment as I am 6'2" and had to hop up to get on a swing lol. The little beach area has a lot of seagulls and there mess and 2 piles of that mess at each end of the beach. The transit area is at a bottom of a hill from the golf coarse and well when it rains it floods bad. My tent was under almost a inch of water. The kids enjoyed getting real muddy tho lol.
We will not be going back as there is better places for the $$$

Terrible camp for tenters
|
I was looking to find a campground that had tent sites suitable for tents, a beach for the kids, sites with some view and running water. This campground promised all, but delivered nothing. The tent sites are tucked WAY back in the woods and are not suitable for tenting (unless you bring your own bed), as they're covered in large rocks. The sites are small, rarely level and many are not equipped for campfires. If you have younger kids, it is a drive to the beach, which I couldn't even find. There is one tap with cold running water for the whole tent grounds. They charge $22+tax per night for a tent, which is a complete rip off. Also, the noise restrictions start at midnight, which is an issue with little kids. I am definitely not coming back here! Lake Spednic down the road has much better campground for only $10 per night!

Run Down
|
Great campground to party in, right on the beach, facilities are totally run down, staff are unfriendly. I'm a 30 year old who liked the campground because of its proximity to the beach, but the campground is tightly packed extremely Overpriced, a dump too noisy even for me. NOT A FAMILY CAMPGROUND
GOOD: great place for young people that wanna make noise and not be kicked out
BAD: Price / No privacy in campgrounds
UGLY: Total Dump, dirty, outdated bathrooms showers suck you get the picture.

worth while if well prepped
|
pros - excellent water park area with splash pad, water slide, paddle boats, kayaks and 'cliff diving boards'. well run and organized. plenty of space in tented areas.
cons - train runs through the park on a regular basis and the train horn goes off as it passes day and night. i actualy feel better knowing the train horn goes off because it means that the place is safe. a lot of extra costs that need to be known in advance; life jackets, showers etc all cost money so either be prepared to go unwashed for a while and not let the kids swim or pack some extra cash and coin
all in all the place is a solid destination if you have small kids and want them to have a great weekend camping memory. we had a group of 7 total; 4 adults (1 pregnant) and 3 kids under 4. even with 2 tents and a screen house set up for eating without bugs, we had room to play and roast marshmallows. we all slept well despite being directly across the path from the train; there's enough to do at the water park to wear out even the most hardcore camper after one day. the kids had a blast, we didn't notice the need for a shower till we came home and felt like we had the place to ourself. we'll be back next year with one more baby in tow!

Not good.
|
Off road, some electrical sites don't work, one toilet and shower for each gender but they aren't very nice. Owner quote Passport America rate two days before on email and then wouldn't honour it when we got there. When we complained, said she was going to give us 20% discount if we hadn't complained. Sure felt like the old "bait and switch". Probably wouldn't have returned anyways.

Our new family favourite campground!
|
What a great park! We rediscovered Summer House Park this year from our first visit 6 years ago. This park has something for everyone. The facilities are the cleanest I've seen and there's enough recreation to keep your toddler to teen happy! The park is in a great locale in that you're only a short distance away from many other great activities and places like Tobermory and the Grotto at Cyprus Lake....a must see! We'll be back every year and have told all our camping-friendly family and friends about this great place!

love the hoodos but the facilities need improvement and too noisy at nights.
|
we enjoyed hiking the park esp. where the hoodos are, beautiful! Things we didn't like are the showers, there was only one working and we had to line up for almost 30 min and the water was really hot. Water taps are very far, and at nights, they allow the campers with generators to run them the whole night. On our first night, an officer came and advised us that we're too loud but after that, the generators kept going all night. I don't get it.

There are better places, keep looking for one
|
Spent 10 days the Loon's Call and would not highly recommend this campground. The water pressure is poor, we barely had enough pressure to have a shower in our RV, at times the water stopped. The central bathrooms were dirty and there is only one shower stall per gender. The self contained outhouses were not pumped the entire time we were there, nor were they cleaned. At one point the camp owner left for their own vacation and there was no staff for 3 days. We did not see any camp employees while we were there except when we registered. The games room is being used to store recycling and garbage, making it impossible to use. The central recycling site is overflowing and people are forced to pile the recycling beside the bins. The camp is situated in a beautiful area and does have potential to be a great getaway, but at present the camp does not have the infastructure, nor the staff to be a suitable family campground. There are much better campgrounds in this area.

Alot of false statements..
|
Half of this campground is pretty to look at, but is not worth all the hassle. My family has a big group camping trip every year and we like to try different places, and we have never once had a complaint against us, and this site followed us around and treated us like children. When booking this place i had a pleasant time with the gentleman, and was told alot of things that ended up not being true. We were told we could play in the creek we booked our sites on as long as we respected it and didnt damage anything,(i asked and made sure because we had children who would want to play in the water) and then told "they have no idea who would have told us that". We were also told that the person booking the sites didnt have to pay the first nights payment for every site upfront (we had 5) that we could pay for one, since everyone was paying seperatly for there sites,(but the credit card would be charged if we didnt show up) and then two weeks prior we were called and told all the sites had been put on our credit card. (not cool). We were also told that dogs were ok to be off leash in the sites but had to be on leashes out of sites, but that was taken back, the sites were so small there they had to be tied up at all times, and yet again we were told "We have no idea who would have told you that".
This campground is not great for families, if you have any kids over 6 you have to pay extra for them, the base rates only include two people (the prices arent amazing to start with) Ive never heard of paying for children seperatly. We were also told we had full hookups and then that was taken back too, it was only power. Also if you have an extra car or someone coming to visit theyre not even allowed to drop there stuff off at the site and then park there car out of the campground. We had a pregant girl with two young children told to park outside and walk back with all her stuff and kids, and the hill you have to walk to get to the sites is HUGE!!!! Then when we tried to talk to someone there about this situation, he kicked out the family. I asked him how he would feel if it was his wife or daughter that this happened to and he told me that it doesnt matter were not allowed back anyways. Nice customer service.
The showers you have to pay for extra as well, and the one I used smelled of musk and mold on the curtains. And the campground is right on the highway so sleeping isnt very peaceful.
Now Im not usually a picky person, and I rarely complain, but this place just had problem after problem and after talking to someother campers as well, turns out it wasnt just us. We were told other campers complained about us and so we asked them and they said they were being told the same thing about us. I wish anyone good luck who tries it there, well never recommend it to anyone we know.
